Red Cross Responds to Holiday Home Fires
Resolve To Help Someone in Need with a Donation to the Red Cross
Wilmington, NC, December 28, 2011 — AmericanRed Cross volunteers responded to four home fires in the Cape Fear area this past week, ensuring the 12 residents affected had a warm bed to sleep in during the holidays. In addition to offering the families a safe place to stay, the Red Cross provided financial assistance with food, clothing, shoes, and other basic necessities. Emergency aid is provided free of charge to any resident in the Cape Fear area who has experienced a verifiable disaster such as a home fire.
The Red Cross relies on the generous support of loyal donors, volunteers and community partners to turn heartbreak into hope. The New Year is a time for making resolutions, and the American Red Cross urges people to resolve to help neighbors in need during this season of giving by making a tax-deductible donation before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Many people make charitable contributions at the end of the year as part of their holiday tradition, and the Red Cross depends on these donations to provide hope, help and compassion. Nationally, donations in December account for about 20 percent of all non-disaster contributions from the public to the Red Cross.
By making a financial donation to your local Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross in support of the Holiday Donor Challenge Campaign by December 31, 2011, you can give hope to local families when it’s needed most and TRIPLE the impact of your contribution through double matching gift incentives. Thanks to the generosity of the Harms Family Foundation and Monica C. Watson, the first $20,000 in financial gifts to the Cape Fear Chapter will be matched TWICE this holiday season.
“As 2011 draws to a close, we are asking everyone to consider making a charitable contribution to the American Red Cross,” said Vicki LaBelle, Executive Director for the Cape Fear Chapter. “This end-of-year generosity will help ensure that the Red Cross can continue to be there to provide relief to disaster victims in their darkest hour, to connect military families during times of crisis, and to support lifesaving blood drives and other vital programs and services.”
You can participate in the Holiday Donor Challenge Campaign and give something that means something before ringing in the New Year by calling 910.762.2683 x361, mailing your financial gift to 1102 South 16th St., Wilmington NC 28401, or by making a secure online contribution at www.CapeFearRedCross.org.
Hundreds of thousands of people needed help from the American Red Cross in 2011, their lives forever changed by disasters like tornadoes, floods, wildfires and hurricanes in the U.S., and earthquakes and other disasters around the world. In the U.S., the Red Cross launched 137 domestic disaster relief operations in 46 states and territories to help people affected by fires, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. In addition, major international disaster relief efforts included the Japan earthquake and tsunami response and the continuing work following the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
What better way to finish 2011 with early action on a resolution to lend a helping hand? Help someone in need and resolve to contribute to your local American Red Cross before the end of the year.
