Give Something That Means Something This Holiday Season
Cape Fear Red Cross launches Holiday Donor Challenge with double matching gift incentives
Wilmington, NC November 15, 2011 — This holiday season the American Red Cross is urging people to give something that means something. By making a financial donation through the 2011 Holiday Donor Challenge campaign, you can give hope to local families in need and TRIPLE the impact of your contribution through double matching gift incentives.
Thanks to the generosity of the Harms Family Foundation and Monica C. Watson, the first $20,000 in financial contributions to the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross will be matched TWICE this holiday season. For every dollar donated, the chapter will receive a total of three dollars in support of the vital programs and services it provides to area residents. Your donation can help save the day when fire destroys a neighbor’s house, when a patient needs blood, or when a member of the military has a family emergency back home.
“We ask people to be generous in their support of the Red Cross this holiday season, and help us to provide assistance and relief to local neighbors in need,” said Vicki LaBelle, Executive Director. “We know these are difficult times for families and businesses across our nation. That’s why we’re grateful for the ability to offer supporters an unprecedented opportunity to triple the impact of their holiday donation through these incredible matching gift incentives.”
Your tax-deductible contribution can be made by:

Two thousand and eleven has been a busy year for the American Red Cross. Red Cross chapters responded to more than 68,000 disasters across the country, including the launch of major relief operations for wildfires that burned hundreds of thousands of acres; tornadoes that destroyed entire towns; and flooding that left communities under water from the Dakotas to the East Coast.
Red Cross Services to the Armed Forces workers provided assistance to more than 386,000 members of the military and their families, veterans and civilians. Red Cross Blood Services distributed more than nine million blood products for patients in nearly 3,000 hospitals across the United States. The Red Cross enrolled more than 8.2 million people in health and safety training such as first aid and CPR, aquatics and water safety. As part of the global Red Cross network in more than 180 countries around the world, the American Red Cross responded to disasters and public health emergencies in more than 60 countries.
Last year in the Cape Fear region, your local Red Cross delivered the following vital programs and services to the Cape Fear community:
· 423 local disaster victims (including 138 children) were assisted with emergency basic needs – such as food, clothing, shelter, replacement medications, comfort items, and counseling resources – in the aftermath of a fire at their home or apartment.
· 1,166 military families were assisted through Emergency Communications services, our “Get to Know Us” program, and pre‐deployment briefings.
· 5,979 community members were trained in first aid, CPR, water safety, and other life saving skills.
· 541 area blood drives were held through which 19,559 units of blood were collected for local patients in need.
· 4,754 area residents received disaster preparedness education and information.
