Disaster Services
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by the voluntary contributions of time and money from the American people. When disaster strikes, the Red Cross stands ready to shelter and feed people until the danger is past, and then to help them rebuild their lives. Volunteers go to the scene of local disasters such as home and apartment fires, tornadoes, and transportation accidents. We serve food to victims and rescue workers, if needed, and help those affected obtain what they need most -- for example: temporary shelter, food, clothing, medications and disaster mental health assessments. Assistance is provided based on the level of damage sustained. Last year the Cape Fear Chapter responded to 126 local disasters, the majority of which were home fires. We helped 476 affected individuals, 149 of them being children, with emergency food, shelter and supplies.
Disaster Volunteer Training
When a disaster happens, everyone wants to help. Red Cross disaster volunteers are among the first on the ground to assist the victims of every disaster. We prepare for the worst, and hope for the best, but we are always ready to help when needed. Join us on the front lines of disaster response.
